What is One James?

One James is the integrative wellness coaching practice of Dr. James Peth. It’s founded in science… just like James. No gimmicks, fads, diet hacks, or magic shortcuts.

So, it’s just one guy? that’s it?

Well, sort of. Yes, One James is the kind of practice where, when you call, it’s James who answers the phone. Where any background music you hear is the music James has playing, not “hold” music. Where the James you talk to is the same James you will talk to each and every time—whether tomorrow, next week, or next year. At the same time, One James is committed to being a resource for all of your health needs. With colleagues in other areas of wellness—physicians, dietitians, mental health practitioners, and more, One James can help you work through the most complicated issues or refer you to someone who can.

Who’s James Peth and what’s his story?

With diverse interests and a passion for learning, James has developed a broad educational background, completing degrees in exercise science (B.S.), physiology (M.S.), public health (M.P.H.) and nutrition (Ph.D.); advanced training in web/graphic design and multimedia, instructional design, and education; and continuing education in mindfulness, positive psychology, and health coaching. He has worked in the health and wellness industry, business, and academia for over 30 years.

What’s James’s coaching niche?

As an integrative wellness coach and practitioner of mindfulness, James is dedicated to helping others lead healthy and fulfilling lives. His coaching style is supportive, non-judgmental, and empowering, based on a holistic perspective of wellness. He understands that many factors comprise the “Circle of Life” (physical, emotional, financial, spiritual, recreation, creativity, contribution, family and friends, partner/love, personal development, occupation, and environment) and that each factor and their links must be considered and supported to achieve optimal well-being. It takes balance!

James meets clients in a safe, virtual space and carefully listens to identify their unique needs and goals and form a collaborative partnership. He uses motivational interviewing and provides tools and guidance founded in health behavior theory to link clients’ health, fitness, and wellness goals, medical recommendations, and the motivations and actions necessary to develop mindful habits. The result? Sustainable lifestyle changes and higher quality of life. Who doesn’t want that?

Each person's journey to optimal well-being is unique, and coaching is tailored to meet each individual's specific needs and goals. By supporting the various aspects of well-being, individuals can achieve a more balanced and fulfilling life. What are your health goals?

James is an Assistant Professor for the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Colorado State University, where his focus is developing and teaching courses in nutrition and wellness coaching and preparing students to address complex issues in health. He has performed research in health sciences (exercise physiology, biochemistry, nutrition science, and cardiology) and most recently, in nutrition science education. His most recent research used self-determination theory to study factors that influence intrinsic and extrinsic motivations related to approaches to learning in nutrition science. James has received grants to fund course design in nutrition and recently won a teaching award in the College of Health and Human Sciences at CSU.

James’s expertise in nutrition is an asset to his clients—he understands why and how diet and lifestyle are critical to health and wellbeing. James works with clients to develop lifelong habits, including healthy, sustainable, and enjoyable patterns of eating. He can also help his clients manage stress—a common barrier to optimal health. He has completed an evidence-based MBSR (mindfulness-based stress reduction) program on mental and physical health and a mastery badge in mindfulness and helps his clients incorporate mindfulness and meditation practices into their daily lives (or guide them to education and support).
