Live-In Care Companion & Home-Share Opportunity

Location: Old Town, Fort Collins, CO
Rent: Waived in exchange for support
Availability: Taking applications for May 2026

A Unique Living & Support Opportunity

I’m looking for a trustworthy, kind, and dependable live-in companion to share my home in Old Town, Fort Collins. This is more than just a housing arrangement; it’s a chance to build a meaningful connection, enjoy a supportive environment, and benefit from mentorship while living in one of the best areas in town.

This role is NOT a full-time caregiving job. I need overnight presence, an average of ~5 nights per week. I do have backup help in case you need it. Most of the time, you would just sleep, and I would have your help in case of emergencies.

This opportunity is flexible depending on your qualifications, interests, and U.S. work eligibility. Some individuals may provide only overnight presence, while others may wish to take on additional responsibilities for hourly pay based on experience. Please see the “Help James” page at the top.

What This Involves

  • Overnight presence (10 pm-6 am) is required at least five nights per week. You are free to sleep.

  • Being available in case of an emergency. Most nights will be completely uninterrupted.

  • Flexible arrangement depending on your skills and interests. Paid caregiving work may be available (see below).

Other (Optional, Based on Qualifications & Interest)

If you have caregiving or healthcare experience, there may be an opportunity to help. These responsibilities are not required, but are available for those who are interested.

Who This Might Be a Good Fit For

  • Someone looking for a place to live in Fort Collins while attending CSU or working.

  • A student, professional, or caregiver interested in an intercultural exchange and a supportive home environment.

  • Someone with a background in caregiving who may want additional responsibilities.

  • A kind, responsible, and dependable person who values meaningful connections and open communication.

Work Eligibility Note

U.S.-based applicants with legal work authorization may be eligible for additional paid caregiving hours. Applicants from outside the U.S. without U.S. work authorization would participate in a volunteer home-share arrangement.

For International Applicants

If you are from outside the U.S., you may be eligible for a volunteer caregiver and home-share arrangement, similar to an au pair program. This opportunity is available through Amicitia Reciproca and the International Volunteer Sponsorship Program it sponsors. The program supports language and cultural exchange as well as personal or academic development. One example of an educational pathway is the Intensive English Program at Colorado State University.

About the Space

  • Beautiful, modern 2-bedroom, 2-bath home in a secure building.

  • Prime Old Town location, steps from Washington Park, Lee Martinez Park, and CSU.

  • Your own bedroom and bathroom.

  • Fully furnished common areas with a large kitchen and dining space.

  • Private balcony with mountain views.

  • Secure building with elevator, bike storage, and underground parking.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

Living in Old Town Fort Collins at no cost is extremely rare. This arrangement offers:

  • Completely waived rent in exchange for minimal overnight support.

  • A safe, comfortable, and modern home environment.

  • An opportunity for mentorship, academic support, or personal growth.

  • A chance to engage in a meaningful, mutually beneficial home-share arrangement.
