Recreational Companion and Caregiver
Location: Fort Collins, CO
Job Type: Part-Time, Flexible Hours (potential for long-term, full-time position)
Pay: $25-$30 per hour (for local, day-to-day activities)
About the Role:
Are you someone who loves helping others and exploring new experiences? I’m seeking a compassionate and adventurous caregiver to assist with daily living tasks and join me in enjoying life’s many opportunities—from local outings and day trips in Colorado to, eventually, longer journeys. This is not your typical caregiving role—it’s an opportunity to build a supportive, fun, and rewarding relationship that blends caregiving with companionship. Together, we’ll enjoy nature, cultural experiences, and exciting activities while fostering a meaningful connection.
Responsibilities:
Assist with daily living tasks such as meal preparation, mobility support, transfers, and light medical care (e.g., emptying leg or colostomy bags).
Drive a wheelchair-accessible vehicle and accompany me on outings (no need for transfers in and out of the vehicle).
Participate in activities such as walks, dining on patios, visiting museums, and discovering new places.
Foster a supportive relationship through meaningful conversations and shared experiences.
Be open to learning and assisting with additional care, especially if traveling.
Qualifications:
Experience or interest in recreational therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, or related healthcare fields is preferred.
Comfort and familiarity with disability care, with a willingness to learn specific care routines.
Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm for outdoor adventures, art, culture, and new experiences.
Reliability, responsibility, and a proactive mindset.
Reside in or near Fort Collins, CO (or have reliable transportation to get here).
Compensation Details:
Hourly Rate: $25-$30 per hour for local, day-to-day activities and outings.
Extended Trips: For longer trips, compensation will be arranged as a flat rate, with all expenses (lodging, meals, activities) covered and negotiated in advance.
About Me:
I'm an Assistant Professor of Nutrition at Colorado State University with a background in food and nutrition, exercise science, and public health. I'm also a board-certified health and wellness coach. I love exploring new places, enjoying great food and beverages, listening to music, and engaging with arts and culture. Whether it's trying a new recipe, attending a concert, or visiting a museum, I value opportunities to share these experiences. While my work is fulfilling, I'm ready to make more room for connection, adventure, and the things that bring joy and balance to my life.
What I Offer:
A flexible, part-time position that is unlike any typical caregiving job—perfect for students or professionals in healthcare, nutrition, or wellness fields looking for a unique experience.
Opportunities for mentorship in academia, especially nutrition, exercise science, and public health.
A chance to build a rewarding, long-term connection while engaging in activities like trying new restaurants, attending concerts, and planning exciting adventures together, including potential travel in the future.
How to Apply:
To apply, please complete and submit my application. You’ll be asked for basic personal information, availability, and a few questions to help me get to know you better. Once submitted, I’ll share my contact information for you to send your resume. If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s explore this opportunity together. I’ll follow up via email, text, or call—whichever you prefer—to arrange a meeting in person or over Zoom.
